Wearing the Fight: Stones for Strength and Protection

Wearing the Fight: Stones for Strength and Protection

Wearing the Fight: Stones for Strength and Protection

There’s a reason your heart races every time another brutal policy makes the news. You’re not imagining it—things are getting more dangerous. Across the country and in our own communities, cruelty is being codified into law. Whether it’s targeted erasure, bodily autonomy under attack, or the slow, grinding machinery of dehumanization, it’s happening in plain sight.

And while we raise our voices, donate, vote, write, and show up—we also need to stay safe. We need grounding. We need reminders that our fight is not new—and neither is our protection.

For millennia, humans have turned to stones and symbols in times of crisis. Not because they’re magic charms that ward off all danger, but because they remind us of what’s ancient, enduring, and resilient in ourselves. A pendant pressed with a battle-worn goddess. A chunk of black tourmaline tucked in your pocket before court. A bracelet laced with jasper before a protest. These aren’t just accessories. They’re rituals. Anchors. Tiny acts of resistance.

Whether or not you believe in the metaphysical properties of stones, the act of wearing something believed to offer protection can steady you—emotionally, spiritually, and somatically. It’s armor. It’s intention. And in some moments, it’s just what you need to remember that your fear is valid, and your courage is real.

Here are a handful of stones I work with in the studio—and keep close myself—known across cultures and centuries for their roles in protection, strength, and sovereignty:

Protection Stones

Black Tourmaline
The sentinel. Known as the ultimate shield against negative energy and psychic attacks. Rooted in the earth, it absorbs what doesn’t belong and reminds you where your edges are.

Amethyst
The alchemist. Transforms negativity into something higher. A psychic protector that supports emotional clarity, especially in spaces where you're being gaslit or second-guessed.  Shop amethyst jewelry here.

Obsidian
The blade. Volcanic glass forged in fire, obsidian absorbs darkness—yours or others’—and slices through illusion. For boundaries, protection, and clarity.

Selenite
The purifier. A high-vibration crystal that clears energetic debris and creates a protective aura. Think of it like energetic hand-washing after hard conversations.

Labradorite
The mirror cloak. This iridescent stone strengthens your own energy field, helping you shield without shutting down. A favorite of healers, empaths, and introverts navigating loud rooms.

Lapis Lazuli
The wise one. Long worn by royalty and mystics, lapis enhances inner vision and blocks psychic noise. Protective and clarifying—especially when you're trying to speak truth to power.

Stones for Strength & Courage

Hematite
The anchor. A grounding force that reconnects you to your spine when the world feels untethered. Promotes courage, clarity, and standing your ground.

Jasper
The stabilizer. Embodies quiet strength and enduring support. Offers courage when the path is uncertain, and grounding energy when everything else feels too much. For standing firm, staying steady, and moving forward with heart.

Carnelian
The spark. A firestarter for vitality, courage, and taking up space. Helps you speak up, move forward, and confront what scares you.

Malachite
The transformer. Deep green with protective swirls, malachite helps transmute emotional pain and calls forth inner strength. It also blocks toxicity—energetic or otherwise.

Honorable Mentions from My Stash

I also keep close (and often work with) stones like Pyrite (willpower and protection), Fire Agate (for courage and psychic shielding), Moonstone (for emotional strength and intuition), and Shungite (to cut through energetic noise and EMF pollution).

Symbols matter. Stones matter. Not because they fix what’s broken—but because they help us keep going. They remind us of who we are, who we protect, and what we’re willing to rise for.

Wear your stones. Find your symbols. Stay safe. Stay fierce. Stay human.
